HIROSHI ONO

Hiroshi Ono was born in Kurashiki, Japan, on 28 May 1968 and attended the Aichi Fine Art University where he graduated in Environmental Design in 1993.
In 1994, he moved to Italy where he immediately started working as a designer for the Sowden studio in Milan, becoming a partner in 1996 and working on many high-profile projects.
In 1999, he produced “Hiroshi & Davy”, a side show to the Milan Salone del Mobile (Furniture Fair), held at Galleria Ciovasso. The event proved to be a great success, and gave Hiroshi Ono excellent visibility. In 2001, he opened his own studio “Happy Design sas”, concentrating his efforts on producing innovative designs supported by new technologies.

He now works in all areas of design from styling to mechanical design, including graphic and branding design.
Hiroshi Ono can lay claim to prestigious collaborations with international and Italian companies including Newell, Top Stationery, HannSpree, Rancilio, Graco, iLinko, Bright, Break, Noritsu, McPerson, Lavazza and Fratelli Guzzini.

His collaboration with Fratelli Guzzini dates back to 2002, when he designed the toaster, hand blender, the slicing tool and grater for the G-Plus range of small domestic appliances together with George Sowden, for which they won the IF Design Award in 2004. The design for the electric handwhisk, however, is all his own work. In September, it was presented as one of the new products along with this brand new coffee machine.

Hiroshi Ono says about his latest creation: “In designing the look for this new machine, I focused entirely on producing simple, clean and essential lines. I think that simplicity is essential for this object to coordinate successfully with any room in the house.  As a designer, I’m happy if the consumer gets a little fun and enjoyment out of the shape, as well as the practicality of this coffee machine”.
